Storytime: My first time being high
My First Time Being High
My first time being high was an event that changed my life forever. It was a cool fall day in early October, 2017. Growing up going to church, I was always taught that drugs were bad and weed will ruin your life if you try it, in turn creating a fear of the substance. The rule with teenagers is when you tell them not to do something it makes them want to do it more. My fears quickly turned to curiosity making me do exactly that. I heard things such as "It'll be the greatest feeling of your life!" and "Once you try it you'll realize how amazing it is!" These influences are what finally brought me to try it.
When I had finally gotten my hands on some THC it was in the form of edibles. They were 30 mg each. I took one and waited. After about 30 minutes nothing happened...so I decided to take another one. Being the ignorant teenager that I was at the time I hadn't done any research about edibles or weed in general so I really had no clue what I was doing. Its just an edible. All you do is eat it, right? How hard can it really be? Little did I know that unlike the standard smoking flower, edibles took about 45 minutes to kick in. That's where I had messed up. I had taken twice the amount that I should have. Unaware of the grave mistake that I had just made, I continued to wait.
It didn't take long for the affects to start to kick in and I began to get a funny feeling. I remember it was like a trembling feeling of discomfort that grew into pure confusion. One minute I was perfectly normal and the next I was higher than a kite. It all seemed to hit me at once and I did not know how to react. There was an overwhelming feeling of joy but also a sense of nervousness because I had never experienced anything like this before.
As the night continued on my high didn't seem to be going away. I had heard from people that a high shouldn't last more that a few hours but it didn't seem like it was going away any time soon. There was my second mistake. I didn't research how long the effects of edibles lasted. The effects of edibles can last up to 12 hours and I had taken 60 mg for my first time.
I can't really remember if it was an enjoyable feeling or not but I eventually fell into a deep sleep. The next day I could not get up out of bed. I was so exhausted that I stayed home from school. Overall, the experience truly changed my life. It opened my mind to what marijuana actually was and took away the big mystery fear factor of it.
If I could send a message to anyone reading this that is debating trying smoking for the first time it would be to do research before you just blindly try it. And that doesn't just go for smoking weed. Before you try anything or do anything make sure you fully understand what you're doing and take the proper safety precautions in order to make it the best experience that you can have.
